George Eason Obituary

George Alben Eason of Macclesfield, age 85, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 25, 2024surrounded by his family.

Born July 16, 1938 to the late George G. and Edna Eason, George attended South Edgecombe High School and N.C. State University obtaining his degree in Civil Engineering. After marrying his grammar school sweetheart, Annie Lois Flowers, he became a Professional Engineer working for the N.C.Department of Transportation (NCDOT).   Also known as “Buddy” to many, he and Lois raised two daughters, Cindy and Dawn on their farm in Edgecombe County.

George was active in his community and attended Webbs Chapel Baptist Church, singing in the choir, and serving as a deacon.  One of his many claims to fame is his famous wood-cookedBrunswick Stew that was often crafted for fund raising eventsfor the church and select charities.  He served on the Edgecombe County Human Service Board for several years, completing his service in 2022.

Even while working for NCDOT for 35 years, George maintained a farm, raising livestock, corn, soy beans and peanuts. In fact, his peanuts won several blue ribbons at the NC State Fair.   His part-time farming hobby would cause him to spend long, hard-working nights planting and harvesting his crops.  He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and camping.

At his retirement in 1999, George was awarded the “North Carolina Order of the Long Leaf Pine by the then Governor, James B. Hunt, for his service to the State of North Carolina. The year 1999 also brought a new role to his life, that of “Granddaddy” with the birth of his first grandchild.  His pride and joy was being a granddaddy to his 3 grandchildren, Timothy, Brooks, and Emma, who he loved with his whole heart.

Always quick with a joke, family and friends were the cornerstone of his life and he will be missed by all who knew him.  He shared unselfishly with others and loved to nourish not only their souls but their appetites with his slow-cooked pig pickings.  Hard-working, dedicated,z and determined are adjectives that best describe his life.

A devoted and loving husband, he and his wife, Lois, celebrated 66 years of marriage before his passing.

George leaves behind his wife, Lois Eason; daughter, Cindy Eason Yarborough, and husband Robert Yarborough of Clayton; daughter Dawn Eason Dixon, and husband Chris Dixon of Fayetteville; grandson Joseph Brooks Dixon of Raleigh; his sisters Phyllis E Pitt of Pinetops and Brenda E Stallings of Winston Salem; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter Emma Claire Dixon and his grandson, Timothy Charles Morris.

The family would like to extend their sincere and heart-felt thanks for all the prayers, visits and kindness shown during this difficult time and requests in lieu of flowers, please direct donations to Webbs Chapel Baptist Church, 2771 Webbs Chapel Road, Macclesfield, NC 27852
