Mr. Edward Spurgin, Jr age 89 originally of Tarboro passed away in Goldsboro, at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center on March 16, 2024.
He was the son of Rex E. Spurgin, Sr and Gladys Jenkins Spurgin.
He was drafted into the US Army after high school due to the Korean War.
He graduated from East Carolina University with a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. He worked for the State of North Carolina as a psychiatric Social Worker and substance abuse counselor. In high school he loved to play the trumpet which followed him through his life in the Army, church and nursing homes. He loved to sing and share about the lord wherever he would go. Being a graduate of ECU, he remained a big Pirate fan so much so he made Greenville his last place of residence.
He was married to the late Jane S. Hendrix for 23 years from Goldsboro whom they raised their only child, Pamela Spurgin Barbee. He has a son in law Johnny R. Barbee and two grandchildren Jacob Lawhon and Jordan Moody (Boone Moody) Husband.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, wife Jane S. Hendrix and also late wife Earle Gladson Spurgin and sister Eleanor Sassor.
The family will have a memorial service Monday, March 18, 2024 at 2 Pm at Greenwood Cemetery, Tarboro, NC, 27886
