“Babs” was born April 27, 1936 in the home on Polo Road in Winston-Salem, NC to Robert Thad and Nellie May Caudle. She loved her golfing friends and telling the story of shooting an 84 at Forsyth Country Club. She cherished her “birthday group” and her favorite picture, other than her pictures of Fred, was one she proudly kept on her refrigerator of her surprise 60th birthday party with all her friends dressed up as old ladies. Her favorite family moments always involved food and the dining room table. She once prepared a resume for herself, claiming the title "Chief Cheerleader for her Children".
For many years she worked at The Prudential Realty where she met many wonderful friends.
In November 2016 Babs’ life changed course as she packed up all of her belongings and moved to Tarboro, NC to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Immediately adopted by the household cat, Babs for the first time in her life became a Cat Lady. She oversaw the construction and decorating of her “carriage house” residence, which was a daily joy for her (perhaps not so much for the builder). Telephone calls from her friends in Winston Salem were treasured moments and visits were even more special.
Babs’ final months were filled with adventures, love, giggles, and hugs despite the cruel ravages of frontal and temporal lobe atrophy. She is now free of her earthly body and reunited with family and friends who have predeceased her.
Married to Allan R. Gitter for 26 years and to Fred S. Hutchins, Jr. for 15 years. Predeceased by husband, Fred, and survived by her sister, Kathleen Keiger, of Boulder, Colorado, her daughter Alison Boyette (Wayne), son Ryne Gitter (Holly), son Kent Gitter (Kim), stepdaughter Laurie Johnson (Dan), stepson Rick Hutchins (Terri), grandchildren Katherine, Matthew, Patrick, Nicholas, Tilson, Ellie, Gray, Rob, Rick, and Kate, and her “almost sister”, Janet Jared.
The family would like to thank the medical professionals and staff at Vidant Pinetops Clinic and Kindred Hospice and Home Health for their care and support, and our wonderful team of personal caregivers for their skill, love and kindness, for whom we will forever be grateful!
