Betsy Wainwright Hathaway, 96, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, at First Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor John Henry Chapman, III officiating. Burial will follow in Edgecombe Memorial Park.

Betsy loved the Lord. She was a longtime member of First Free Will Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and was the president of the Auxiliary League. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and had a knack for painting. Betsy will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.      

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert E. Hathaway, Jr.; and a son, Larry P. Hathaway.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories a daughter, Faye Nichols and husband Charles; son, Avery Hathaway and wife Connie; sister, Dora Hathaway; daughter-in-law, Joyce Hathaway; grandchildren, John H. Chapman, Jr., Amy D. Chapman, Rhonda H. Wells, Jennifer I. Hathaway, Everett Hathaway, Gregory Hathaway; great-grandchildren, Rachel W. Moore, Tiffany C. Barber, John H. Chapman, III, Jacob Hathaway, Savannah Hathaway, Luke Hathaway, Nathan Hathaway, Logan Chapman, Andrew Hathaway, Caleb Hathaway, Lee Wells; 2 great-great grandchildren, Brooklyn Barber, and Brayden Barber.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the First Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 3150 Western Blvd., Tarboro, NC 27886.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday night from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home.
