Z. BRYAN HAISLIP SR.
TARBORO – Mr. Zesely Bryan Haislip Sr., 91, of Tarboro, died May 25, 2018, after a short illness.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, 303 E. St. James St., Tarboro, NC 27886, conducted by the Reverend Benjamin E. E. Kane, followed by a graveside service. The family will receive visitors at the church afterwards.
Mr. Haislip was the son of Robert Alexander and Zenobia Cox Haislip. He was born August 25, 1926, at home just outside of Oak City, NC. He served in the U. S. Army in World War II, and graduated from UNC-CH with a degree in Journalism in 1948. He worked as a reporter with the Raleigh News & Observer and the Associated Press; in public relations with John Harden Associates in Greensboro; as a columnist for the N.C. Association of Afternoon Dailies; on the editorial staff of the Fayetteville Observer and the Winston-Salem Journal; and as the editor of the editorial page of the Winston-Salem Sentinel.
In 1953, he married the love of his life, Mary Allen Nicholson Haislip. After her death in Winston-Salem, he moved to Tarboro in 2000, where he became an active member of Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, as well as the community. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Ruth H. and Russell Roberson; his son and daughter-in-law, Zesely Bryan Jr. and Melody C. Haislip; his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa H. and James E. Robinson; his grandchildren, Zesely Bryan “Z.B.” Haislip III and his wife Danielle Dobosz, Caroline Cobb, Mary Ruth Robinson, and James Bryan Robinson; and numerous and much-loved cousins, nieces, and nephews from the Haislip, Cox, Allen, and Nicholson families.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, Tarboro; or to Blount-Bridgers House Foundation, P.O. Box 1255, Tarboro, NC 27886.
