Charles Edward Nichols, 82, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019 at his home with his loving family by his side.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at First Free Will Baptist Church with John Henry Chapman, III and Pastor Stanley Buck officiating.  

Charles loved The Lord and was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Tarboro where he enjoyed singing in the choir and the fellowship with other members and friends. He was dedicated to and a passionate fan of North Carolina Tar Heels football and basketball teams and he would often voice his opinion about his Tar Heels. On Friday nights you would find him and friends playing cards and following the Tarboro Viking football team. He was a member of Masonic Lodge of Robersonville. Charles will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Charles was born November 13, 1937 in Guilford County to Claude Franklin and Sara Nichols. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Nichols.

He is survived by his loving family, including his wife, Faye Hathaway Nichols; brother, Richard Franklin "Frank" Nichols; sons, Eddie Nichols, Bobby Nichols (Kim); John Chapman, Jr. (Jamie); daughter, Amy Chapman; grandchildren, Katie Summers (Matt), Christopher Nichols (Anna), Emily Coble (Conner), Caroline Sides (Logan), Andrew Nichols, John Henry Chapman, III  (Jenn) and Tiffany Barber (Cameron); grandchildren, Logan and Ashton; great-grandchildren, Landon Coble, Brooklyn and Brayden Barber.

The family will receive friends and other relatives Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at First Free Will Baptist Church, Tarboro from 3:00–4:00 p.m. and other times at the home, 709 Weeks Drive, Tarboro, N.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the First Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 3150 Western Blvd., Tarboro, NC 27886.
