Charlie Eugene Harrington, age 85, passed away at Pitt Vidant Hospital on Thursday, February 21, 2019.
He was born on May 21, 1933 in Wilmington, NC to the late Charlie Reddin and Ethel Terry Harrington of Tarboro, NC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Lou Peele Harrington, to whom he was married for 60 years. Also, preceded by four great-grandchildren, Kristi, Lucy, Maddie and Gracie; two brothers, Clayton and William Earl Harrington, Sr.
He loved his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, his family, and his country. He proudly served in the United States Army honorably during the Korean War, as a Heavy Weapons Infantryman, Co H, 14th Infantry; during which he received the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star. He re-committed his life to the Lord at the age of 31 and from that time forward began witnessing, preaching the Gospel and praying for anyone that asked. He was a minister for 54 years.
He is survived by daughters, Rose Hudson (husband, Leroy), Jeannie Johnson, and Beverly Shafer (husband, Gale); 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; Sister, Ethel Metters (husband, Charles); brothers, Hosey, Dallas (wife Lynda), and Luther Harrington; Sisters-in-law, Evelyn, Joyce and Jean Peele, and Barbara Moore; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Tarboro Church of God on Sunday, February 24th at 3:00pm with Pastor Sammy Wood officiating. The family will be receiving friends and relatives one hour before the service, at 2:00pm. Burial will conclude at Edgecombe Memorial Park.
