David Lee Summerlin, Sr.

Rocky Mount, NC - David Lee Summerlin Sr., age 87, passed away peacefully in his home early Sunday, November 3, 2019 with his wife and son by his side. He was born December 8, 1931 in Edgecombe County to the late Albert Lee and Bryant Edwards Summerlin. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Wayne Summerlin and daughter-in-law, Vonda Edmondson Summerlin.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Moore Summerlin; son, Lee Summerlin of Tarboro; grandsons, Jordan Summerlin of Koshigaya-Shi, Japan, Corben Summerlin of Tarboro; and granddaughter, Jennah Summerlin of Raleigh.

David graduated from Tarboro High School and attended Campbell University. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years during the Korean War. David worked for the United States Post Office in Tarboro, NC for thirty years. He loved coaching Little League baseball where he earned the love and respect of all his players. David was a member of Englewood Assembly of God.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Carlisle Funeral Home in Tarboro with Pastor Gerry Blood officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 10:00-11:00 am on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
