Delard Jones Harris

Mrs. Delard Jones Harris, age 95, passed away in the loving arms of Jesus on August, 11, 2018 at the Edgecombe Health and Rehab.

She was born in Edgecombe County on Jan 19, 1923 to the late Barney and Mable Phillips Jones.

She and her husband Paul Harris were active members of the Baptist Church in Suitland before moving back here in 1954. They moved their membership to the Pinetops Baptist Church in 1954. Delard was a nursery worker there for many years. She taught the primary class for many years and also was a W.M.U. member and a Sunday school member after retiring from the primary class. She loved children.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years Paul Jordan Harris and four brothers, Albert, Zeb, Melvin and Eugene Jones.

She is survived by her daughter Vivian Harris Jorden of Myrtle Beach, SC, Grandchildren Jay Coley and wife Venus, Michael Coley and wife Becky of Pinetops, Crystal Smith and husband Edward of Surfside Beach, SC and John Coley III of Rocky Mount.

She worked for the FBI in Washington, DC during World War II, then owned and operated the Western Auto Store in Pinetops for nearly 30 Years, at Kmart in Tarboro for Seven Years, and Sears in Wilson for Three Years. She has always loved her church and Family.

The family will receive friends at Carlisle Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 15, from 10 AM until 10:45 AM with a graveside service following in the Pineview Cemetery at the Pinetops Baptist Church at 11 AM.
