Gary “Jackie” Joyner, 71, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Friday at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church Cemetery with the Reverend Noah Howard officiating.
Jackie served in the Vietnam Conflict in the United States Army. He later retired from CSX Railroad Company after many years of dedicated service.
He was born in Edgecombe County to George Thomas Joyner and Emily Hyman Joyner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Cordelia “Ladybug” Joyner; and sister, Carol Hatchel.
He is survived by his loving family which includes his wife of 49 years, Susan Howard Joyner; daughter, Jackie Luanne Joyner; son, Gary Joyner; grandchildren, Noelle Walters (Andrew), Cierra Joyner (Brandan), Gary Wayne Joyner, III “Buddy”; brother, Herbert Lewis; an uncle, G.C. Hyman, who spent everyday with him and helped take care of Jackie; a host of nieces and nephews; and his four legged best friend, “Forrest”.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday night from 6:00-8:00pm at Carlisle Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations are made to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 3204 Western Blvd., Tarboro, NC 27886.
