Jonathan Felton, Sr Obituary

Jonathan Kerr Felton, Sr., 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Vidant Hospital Tarboro, NC. He was born to Alfonso Forbes and Dora Ellis Felton of Macclesfield, NC on August 2, 1936. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before graduating from East Carolina University with a BA in Business Administration. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity and played on the Pirate Golf Team. He served on the Board of Trustees of Edgecombe Community College for 47 years, acting as Chairman for several years before he stepped down. He was elected an Edgecombe County Commissioner in 1996 and served as Vice Chairman for many of those years. He was an active member of the Concord Lodge NO. 58 A.F.A.M. located in Tarboro, NC for 50 years, and a member of the Scottish Rite.  In 2018 he was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for his dedication and service to the people of the state of North Carolina. He was a devout Christian and was a member of the First Christian Church (DOC) of Macclesfield where he served as an Elder, several terms as Chairman of the Church Board and enjoyed singing in the choir. He had a passion for Pirate football and was a member of the East Carolina Pirate Club for over four decades including induction into the Van Sant Society.  He was a charter member of Maccripine Country Club in Pinetops, NC, a proud member of the one o'clock crowd, and an avid golfer who made nine hole-in-ones. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Milburn Felton and Turner Felton. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Elizabeth Forbes Felton and children; Debbie Felton Lynn & husband James Michael Lynn of Tarboro, NC; Kathy Forbes Felton & partner Vernon L. Moore, Jr. of Chester, VA; Jonathan Kerr Felton, Jr. & wife Marcia Mohesky Felton and Alfonso Forbes Felton II & wife Sharon Graham Felton of Raleigh, NC.  He is also survived by eight granddaughters, Jamie Anderson (Brandon) of Tarboro, NC; Kelsey Diradour and Annie Diradour of Chester, VA; Jill Chatham (David) of Port Charlotte, FL; Ashley Dobbs (Mark) and Allie Perry (Kenneth) of Raleigh, NC; Samantha Felton of New York, NY and Summer Palomares (Mark) of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

A Celebration of Life service with Masonic Rites will be held Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the First Christian Church (DOC) 200 West Green Street, Macclesfield, NC with Pastor Melissa Acres officiating. Visitation with family will follow in the fellowship hall.  In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the First Christian Church (DOC) P.O. Box 41, Macclesfield, NC 27852.
