Margaret “Peggy” Mizell Davenport, 82, of Roper, North Carolina passed away August 25, 2019. She was predeceased by her parents Willie Warren Mizell and Hyacinthe Chesson Mizell and her son, Sterling L. Davenport, Jr.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Sterling L. Davenport, her daughter, Melody Ann Davenport and husband Donnie Price of Gibsonville, North Carolina and daughter Alesia Mizell Davenport of Auburn, Alabama; her grandchildren Samuel Price and wife Olivia Allen Price of San Mateo, California, Thomas Price and wife Sara Wise of New York City and Atlanta, Georgia, Analisa Price of Seattle, Washington; and sister Emily Mizell Henson and her husband George of New Bern, North Carolina.
A lifetime resident of Washington County, Peggy received her undergraduate and master’s degree from East Carolina University in Speech Pathology and Special Education. She started her career in the Washington County School system as a Speech Therapist. When she retired she was administrative head of Special Education Programs for the Washington County School District. Advocating for teachers, students, and their families, she supported the Lions Club and was a Guardian ad Litem. She was a member of the Hebron United Methodist Church in Roper.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Sterling L. Davenport Jr. Scholarship/Fellowship (Fund 611-1783) at the Duke Cancer Institute 300 W. Morgan Street Suite 1200, Durham, NC 27701. A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 31st at 2:00 at the Hebron United Methodist Church in Roper, North Carolina. Visitation will be immediately following the service at the Davenport family home.
