Maurice Elton Gardner

Maurice Elton “PaPa Mauricio” Gardner, 74, of Sumerduck, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018, at the University of Virginia Medical Center from complications of AML.
 
Maurice was born September 22, 1943, in Wilson, N.C., to Moses Lee Gardner and Lydia Lucinda Proctor.

He married Bonnie Faye Hayes on January 18, 1963.

Maurice was a 28-year veteran of the Army, where he served eight years at the White House as part of the presidential motorcade. He retired from the Army in 1988 and again in 2005 from Cassidy & Associates in Washington D.C.
 
Maurice is survived by his daughter, Angela Kallio (Ed); his sister, Betty Jane Ellis (Kenneth); his nephew, Brian Ellis; his niece, Elizabeth Radez; his grandson, Duncan Kallio, and five great nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Faye Hayes, on July 26, 2018.
 
Maurice was a friend to many and a devoted father and grandfather who will be forever missed.  
 
A memorial service will be held at 12:30p.m. on Saturday, October 13, at Bealeton Baptist Church, 11172 Remington Road, Bealeton, VA 22712.

Burial will be held at 2:00p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2018 in the Gardner Family Cemetery in Saratoga, N.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name can be made to Bealeton Baptist Church.
