Nannie Marie (Walters) Denny

Nannie Marie Denny, age 89 of Pinetops, passed away surrounded by her loving family on October 25, 2019. She was the daughter of Ida Harrell Walters and Benjamin Walters of Old Sparta, NC.

Nannie grew up in the depression but had a happy childhood. When she was visiting a neighboring store she met her future husband of 56 years. One of their happiest occasions was moving to their new home on School street in Pinetops that arrived by train which was purchased at the Sears & Roebuck. She relocated alone to Tarboro to be closer to family in 2006. Having to leave behind her beautiful flowers in the yard of her home place was a bitter sweet time for her.

She will be remembered for her love of her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild, also her Sunday fried chicken, popcorn balls at Halloween and pretty flowers for all occasions. Plastic covers on living room furniture and allowing no leaves to hit the ground in her yard.

She was predeceased in death by husband of 56 years Amos Denny, brothers Milford  (Runt) Walters and George (Monkey) Walters, and grandchild Tina Marie Phillips.

She is survived by three children: Linda Denny of Manteo, Jane Caison and husband Melton Caison, Sr. of Tarboro and Ricky Denny and wife Sallie of Tarboro, sisters Margaret Tripp of Pinetops and Lee Cooley and husband Horace of Morehead City, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. 

The family will receive friends and relatives at Carlisle Funeral Home on Sunday, October 27, 2019 from 2 Pm until 3 Pm with a Celebration of Nannie's Life at 3 Pm in the Chapel of Carlisle Funeral Home with Ralph Dawson Webb officiating. Interment will follow service in Greenwood Cemetery.
