Peggy Rodgers Leggett Obituary

Our mother, Margaret Youngblood Leggett “Peggy Rodgers”, 87, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 14th, 2019. She passed away in her home surrounded by family and mother’s amazing angels that cared for her, Erma Applewhite and her daughter Kim Andrew.

Peggy Rodgers was born in Fayetteville and very soon moved to Tarboro. She was preceded in death by her husband William Vance Leggett “Little Brother”, and also by her youngest son, James Warren Leggett.

Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church (HMPC) was mother’s foundation in life. She was baptized in HMPC, where she taught children’s Sunday school for over 50 years. She was married in HMPC, and now she will have her final service in Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church on Thursday at 11:00am, following a graveside service in Greenwood Cemetery at 9:30am on Thursday. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00-8:00pm on Wednesday night at the home of Mrs. Peggy Rodgers, 128 Leggett Lane, Tarboro; and following the service on Thursday in the fellowship hall at the church.

Her church, marriage, and having a family of five sons and one daughter kept her busy. Following our father’s death, mother began her formal education to become a Lay Pastor. In 1993-1994 she completed the entire series of Bethel Bible Study and successfully completed her lay pastor training from New Hope Presbytery in 1999. In 2008-2009, Peggy Rodgers earned her Pastoral Care in Community from Duke University.

Our mother was so blessed by the Holy Spirit and the word of the Lord. She filled the pulpit for over 30 churches in need of a Lay minister. She helped start and also taught the Yolk Fellowship of friends. She officiated funeral services, administered Sacraments, filled the pulpit at HMPC, and was called to lead Covenant Presbyterian Church in Wilson, NC on March 2005-January 2008.

Peggy Rodgers Leggett’s family will continue celebrating her life and love. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, her sister Marshall Lee, and her two daughters Kathy Pack, Elizabeth and Gary Davis, and her son Vance Leggett and his wife Margaret, and his children, Will Leggett and wife Nikki, Virginia Rodgers Leggett; her second son John Rodgers Leggett and wife Gwen, their two daughters Claire McFadyen and her husband John, and Jessica Leggett; third son Chauncey H. Leggett and wife Tammie, their sons, Chauncey Leggett, IV and wife Catherine, and John Hunter Leggett; fourth child and only daughter Margarette Leggett, her two sons, Master Sergeant Trey Lockhart and Matthew Moser; fifth child Bruce Leggett and his wife Ellen; and her youngest son James Warren Leggett (deceased), his wife Kristin, and their children Hannah, Caroline, and Ethan; and 9 great-grandchildren.
