Steve Stamilio Obituary

Steve Stamilio, 64, passed November 17, 2018. Steve grew up in Galeton, PA. He attended Williamsport Area Community College for HVAC, various technical schools for certifications related to plumbing, electrical systems, and HVAC in Pennsylvania and New York, and American Motorcycle Institute in Daytona, FL. After completing his apprenticeship in plumbing and HVAC, he bought out his former employer and was able to start his company, SJS Plumbing & Heating, based in Coudersport, PA. While pursuing higher education he met his wife Jean Cox Stamilio at the Gospel Tabernacle, and after dating three months they were married May 31, 1980. They lived in Coudersport, where they had three children.

In May 1997, the family moved to Charlotte, NC.  Steve worked for a property management firm starting as a Maintenance Supervisor and then as Property Manager.  Later he worked for the corporate office as a Tax Credit Specialist. He worked for Sears Holding Corporation as a Service Technician until his retirement in 2016. During his time in Charlotte, Steve attended, ushered, and was the Property Manager for a time at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Charlotte.

After retirement and the birth of his grandson, the draw to be closer to family grew. In early 2018, Steve, his wife, and their two sons moved to Greenville, NC to be near family. Steve spent time caring for his family, renovating their new home, doting on his grandson, and working in their church, Rock Church of Tarboro. Steve was a deeply faithful Christian with great sense of humor who touched everyone he came in contact with.

Steve’s passions were spending time with family, cooking, reading, history, politics, motorcycles and the Moto Guzzi community, attending spiritual training and being involved in church-based service organizations, exploring his Italian heritage and ancestry, watching and attending Appalachian State University and Pittsburgh Steelers football games and Charlotte Checkers and Carolina Hurricanes hockey games, and enjoyed working on mechanical projects. He loved listening to music and attending events with his daughter, watching movies with his older son, and attending car, truck, and motorcycle races with his younger son. Steve enjoyed taking motorcycle rides, eating and cooking good food, and drinking fine wine with his wife.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Dominic Stamilio and Mary Dandrea Stamilio.

He is survived by his wife Jean Cox Stamilio, his daughter Rebecca Stamilio Ehret (Jeremy), son Tony Stamilio, son Stephen Stamilio, grandson Cole Ehret (all of Greenville, NC) and sister Nancy Stamilio (of Galeton, PA).

Services will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Rock Church Tarboro at 11:00am, with the family receiving friends there one hour before the service.
