Obituary

Addie Touchstone Lewis, 78, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

Visitation will be 9:30 – 10:30am on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at St James United Methodist Church with service following at 11:00am.

Addie was a woman whose life was defined by creativity, service, and a deep love for her family and community. Born in South Dakota, she moved to California at the age of three. From an early age, she found joy in arts and crafts, a passion she carried with her throughout her life and generously shared with others.

She was the proud owner of Addie’s Coffee Shop and Addie’s Café on Main Street in Tarboro, where she created more than just meals, she created a welcoming place where people felt cared for and valued. Addie loved to cook, decorate cakes, and serve others, always finding fulfillment in helping those around her. Her warmth and generosity were felt by every customer who walked through her doors.

Addie also dedicated many years to serving her community through her faith and outreach. She worked as the secretary at St. James United Methodist Church for 15 years, where she was a steady and kind presence. In addition, she spent time at the Robinson Center working with seniors, teaching arts and crafts and sharing her creativity in a way that brought joy and connection to others.

Above all, Addie loved her family. She cherished time spent with her grandson, especially baking and cooking together, moments that created lasting memories filled with love and laughter. She also found peace and happiness at the beach.

Addie will be remembered for her kind heart, creative soul, and the countless lives she touched through her service, her cooking, and her love.

Addie was preceded in death by her father, Claud Touchstone; mother, Loretta Twilliger; stepmom, Evva Touchstone; sister, Helen Lamers (Tony); and brothers, Clem Touchstone and Donald Touchstone.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, David “Sambo” Lewis; son, David Brian Lewis (Carolyn); daughter, Erica Lynn Council (Joseph); grandson, Carl David Council; 3 sisters-in-law, Josephine Tolson, Ann Harrell, and Addie Suggs (Jimmy); 2 brothers-in-law, William Earl Lewis (Linda) and Sydney Lewis; and many nieces and nephews.
