March 14, 1945 – July 4, 2023
On Tuesday, July 4, Alton Lee Webb a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away at home after a long battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 7, 2023 at Carlisle Funeral Home with Rev. James Avery officiating the service. Burial will follow at Macclesfield Cemetery.
Born to Arthur and Johnanna Webb in Edgecombe County. Alton lived and worked in Edgecombe County all his life.
Alton was preceded in death by his parents; son, Alton Lee Webb, Jr.; sisters, Mary Francis Glissom and Dorothy Webb; brothers, Moses, Carlton, and Wayne Webb.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara "Jean" W. Webb; daughter, Laura W. Lewis (Andrea); grandchildren, Jazmin M Hussey, Ciana R. Hussey, and Michael L. Hussey, Jr.; sister, Helen Spain (Bert); sisters-in-law, Linda Webb and Della Webb; and Brad Norman who was like a son to him.
Alton was the owner and operator of Webb Brothers Garage for 50 years. He was always on call to help anyone that had a mechanical problem. He ran 24 hours wrecker service. He was a member of Pinetops Jaycee's from start up to dissolved. Helping with the Christmas Parade and Tractor Pull. Alton was a member of South Edgecombe Rural Fire Department for 49 years. He served as chief for 4 years. He also served as a board member for multiple years and on multiple committees. He served on the Truck Committee for purchasing multiple trucks and the original 1414 was built in his back yard. He was a member of St. Lewis Ruritan Club. He was very involved in helping with the pancake suppers, cooking Brunswick stew, and cooking barbecue chicken for Senior night, and delivering care packages to families.
Visitation will be at Carlisle Funeral Home on Friday, July 7, 2023 from 1:00–2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to South Edgecombe Fire Dept, St. Lewis Ruritan Club or Hospice of Wilson.
