Barbara Ellen Fleming Holden, 89, of Tarboro, NC, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2025 at the Barclay House of Tarboro following a prolonged illness with pulmonary fibrosis. Born June 16, 1935, in Eccles, West Virginia, to Philip Grant Fleming and Ellen Gertrude Falin Fleming, she was the youngest of seven sisters, all of whom preceded her in death. Ms. Holden graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1953 and served as a General Secretary in the U.S. Air Force Civil Service. A passionate traveler, she visited 37 countries and 48 of the 50 United States. While stationed at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, she formed a lifelong friendship with Reginald Holden. Subsequently, she resided in Wiesbaden, Germany, for several years. She was a member of Hayes-Barton Baptist Church of Raleigh, NC. Upon retirement, Ms. Holden moved to Hickory, NC, where she reunited with her sister Mildred. It was there that she reconnected with Reginald Holden, who proposed marriage in 1993. She then relocated to Tarboro, NC, to be with him. Ms. Holden dedicated many years to serving as President of the local chapter of the Retired Federal Employees Association. The family extends sincere gratitude to the staff at the Barclay House of Tarboro, Gentiva Hospice of Tarboro, as well as Ann Proctor and Family, Ashley Jones and Family, Larry Baugess and his wife TJ, and numerous other friends and acquaintances. Survivors include Pat Garrett and his wife Debbie of Shady Spring, WV; Cody Garrett and his fiancée Ginger Richmond of Shady Spring, WV; and Carly and Matt Traybor of Beaver, WV. In accordance with Ms. Holden's wishes, no formal services will be held.
