Obituary

Bennie Gene Sessoms, 78, departed this earthly life on July 20, 2026, following a brief illness, and entered his heavenly home, where his faith long assured him, he would one day dwell.

Bennie was born on September 20, 1947, to the late Guy Frank Sessoms and Margaret Sumerlin Sessoms. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margie Sessoms Peaden; brother, Billy Frank Sessoms; brother-in-law, Dalton Grey Peaden; and nephew, Frankie Grey Peaden.

Bennie is survived by two nieces, Melissa Sessoms Lewis (Keith), Wendy Peaden Wooten (Wes); one nephew, Kendall Glenn Sessoms (Jamie); one great-niece, Gracen Kate Sessoms (fiancé Parker Izzo); three great-nephews, Johnathan Lewis, Justin Lewis (Caitlin) and Grant Kendall Sessoms; cousin, Jimmy Sessoms; special friends, Billy Ray James, Clarence Albert, Billy Burdette; sister-in-law, Judy Hodges Sessoms; and pastor Exum “Squeak” Harrell.

Bennie had an unwavering faith in God. He was a devoted member of Northern Boulevard Church and cherished his church family and friends. His faith and church were the cornerstone of his life, providing him with great comfort and strength.

Bennie’s life was also enriched by his love of Country, Bluegrass and Christian music. He was very talented and deeply enjoyed playing guitar and singing, especially at his church and various nursing homes. He played every other week in a “music get together” with other music lovers at the home of Brenda and Kenny Honeycutt.

In his leisure time, Bennie found solace in word search puzzles and just swinging on his front porch. Swinging and rocking chairs were two of his favorite past times. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing baseball and fishing. He was a true example of a “Pick’in and Grin’in Good Old Christian Country Boy”.

In lieu of flowers, Bennie would have appreciated a contribution to his beloved church, Northern Boulevard Church, 502 East Northern Boulevard, Tarboro, NC 27886.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 24, 2026, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Northern Boulevard Baptist Church in Tarboro.

A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:00 AM.

Interment will follow at Edgecombe Memorial Park.
