Betty Jean Whitley Dennie, 84, of Rocky Mount, passed away in God's graces on December 24, 2022.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Carlisle Funeral Home.

A private memorial service will be held.

Betty Jean was born August 31,1938 in Pitt County, grew up in Edgecombe County, and graduated from South Edgecombe High School. She married Bobby Dennie in 1956 and was a loving and faithful wife for 56 years. A dedicated employee at Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company for over 30 years, she loved her work and instilled in those around her a strong work ethic. In her retirement, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, and traveling the country with her husband who she unwaveringly cared for until his death. Above all else, Betty Jean was a fiercely dedicated mother and grandmother to her daughter and three grandchildren. Family came first, a value she impressed in all those around her. The hole left by her absence is impossible to fill.

Betty Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Martha Whitley; husband, Bobby Dennie; sister, Aldean Morris; and brother, Bud Whitley.

She is survived by her daughter, Kim Daughtridge (Danny); grandsons, Nate Lyon (Megan Huff) and Lance Daughtridge; granddaughter, Rachel Lyon; nephew, Dennis Morris; nieces, Debbie Keel and Renee Joyner; and many nephews, nieces, and friends.
