Brenda Faye Whitfield of Hobgood N.C. passed away peacefully Friday, March 27, 2026 at Edgecombe Health and Rehab Center in Tarboro.

Visitation at 6:00 - 8:00pm on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Carlisle Funeral Home. Memorial service will be at 11:00am on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Carlisle Funeral Home Chapel.

Brenda was born November 11, 1944 to James Haywood and Martha Fannie Vick. Brenda was known for her sweet personality and her great cooking skills. She spent many years working for Cottons Restaurant in Tarboro as both a cook and a waitress and is remembered fondly by those that knew her. 

In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years Gene Whitfield; sons, Vic Melton Jr. and Johnny Whitfield; sister, Louise Vick, and brother, Haywood Earl Vick.

Brenda is survived by daughters, Katina Crowden and husband Stacey, Angela Tolston and husband Fate; sons, Joey Whitfield, Larry Whitfield and wife Barbara; 14 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.
