David Bartley Blaine, Jr., 94, passed away at home in Pinetops, NC, on September 16, 2025. Born on June 29, 1931, in Norfolk, VA, to Nettie Mae Mears and David Bartley Blaine, he lived a life defined by curiosity, compassion, and a deep love for nature.

David is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, four children, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son, David Bradford Blaine.

Known for his adventurous spirit, David often chose the road less traveled—literally and figuratively. His family affectionately referred to his unconventional shortcuts as "Bart Cuts."

He had a lifelong passion for rescuing injured and orphaned animals, once famously bringing a baby squirrel to his daughter's wedding reception in a boot.

David found joy in the natural world, spending countless hours outdoors. Together with his wife, he enjoyed reading, fishing, camping, cultivating unique plants, building and maintaining ponds, and caring for the fish in their large aquarium. His gentle nature, resilience, and sharp wit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He loved deeply and was deeply loved in return.
