Mr. Donald "Don" Alvin Smith, age 64 of Speed passed away on April 17, 2019 surrounded by his family.

Don's greatest love was his family.  He was affectionately known as Papa to his grandkids and dog Saydee. He enjoyed being outdoors, doing yard work on his tractor, and helping others.  He served as a Speed Volunteer Fireman for 20 years, which was one of his passions. He loyally worked for Long Manufacturing/Farmtrac for more than 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father Pete and Dorothy Smith.

Don is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 27 years Barbara of the home.  His children, Donna Hudson and her husband Lynn of Macclesfield; Ashley Buckner and her husband James of Pinetops. Grandchildren Brooklynn, Bryson, Cayden, Nathan and Gracie. Brothers, Ray Smith of Speed; Jerry Smith and his wife, Linda of Speed. His only nephew Kevin Smith.  Great nephew and niece, Hunter and Hannah Smith and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of Don's Life will be held graveside at Edgecombe Memorial Park, Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 3:00 pm with family receiving friends from 1:30 -2:45 pm at Carlisle Funeral Home before the service. Family will also welcome family and friends at the home.
