Obituary

Doris Taylor Wooten, age 88 , passed away at Tarboro Health & Rehabilitation on May 15, 2025.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a teenager. Her family moved to Rich Square in 1959 and she insisted her children be taken to Rich Square Baptist Church before she and her husband, Floyd, began attending with them. They were faithful members of this Church for many years, although they were unable to attend after they relocated to The Fountains (now Barclay House of Tarboro) in May 2015.

Doris and Floyd were married for 65 ½ years. She labored for over 30 years as a seamstress at Mylecraft Mfg. Co. in Rich Square and later in Scotland Neck to provide additional support for her family. She had a sharp wit and usually was very feisty. Those who knew her best admired her force of will and appreciated, sometimes, her dry sense of humor. She loved to travel and went on many trips in the United States and Canada organized by Clara Parker. Thanks to the grace of God, her personal determination, and the wonderful care provided by her doctors, nurses, and staff over the years, she survived cancer, an aortic aneurysm, strokes, and heart attacks.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; her parents, Frank Allen Taylor, Sr. and Ruby Frizzelle Taylor; her sisters, Patricia and Janice, and her brother, Frank Allen Taylor, Jr.

She is survived by her brothers, Wayne Taylor of Greenville, NC and Sam Taylor of Tennessee; son, Kenneth Wooten (wife, Jane) of New Bern, NC; and their 3 children, Renee Wooten of New Bern, NC; Brad Wooten (wife, Tiffany) of Orlando, FL; and Justin Wooten (wife, Paige) of Bluffton, SC; daughter, Teresa Wooten Mason (husband, Mike) of Raleigh, NC; and their 3 children, Brittany Candela (husband, David) of Wilmington, NC; Kayla Grinnell (husband Spencer) of Raleigh, NC; and Mollie Giunta (husband, Steven) of Raleigh, NC; 12 great grandchildren: Ash and Luke English; Zac, Eli, and Tate Wooten; Emmett Wooten; Mason and Dominic Candela; Tali and Oaklen Grinnell; and Macie and Gideon Giunta; sister-in-law Carol Taylor of Greensboro, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Carlisle Funeral Home, 701 Hospital Dr., Tarboro, Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 6-7:30 pm and at the church one hour before the service. The service will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 11 o'clock AM at Rich Square Baptist Church, 116 W. Jackson St., Rich Square, NC with the Rev. John Thompson and Rev. Robert Rogers officiating. Internment will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Rich Square.

The family gratefully acknowledges her healthcare providers, especially the staff of Tarboro Health & Rehabilitation (formerly The Prodigy) for the loving attention they provided to her and the joy they shared with her during her final years. She particularly enjoyed the trips down the hallways with many staff members who would call her by her nickname "Woo Woo" to stop her so they could hold her hand and give her a hug. She always gave them a big smile in return. The family also is thankful for the home environment provided before that at The Fountains (now Barclay House) and the care provided by its staff, especially Bobbie Hoggard. Mom looked radiant and so very happy in the fashion show held there that was sponsored by Talbotts, her most favorite place to go shopping.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rich Square Baptist Church, PO Box 589, Rich Square, NC 27869 or to ECU Health Foundation, 690 Medical Dr., Greenville, NC 27834 (designated to support either ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro or the ECU Heart Institute at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville).
