Dorothy Alma Harrell Weathersby

May 5, 1933 – May 17, 2025

"Well done, good and faithful servant." – Matthew 25:23

Dorothy Alma Harrell Weathersby, 92, of Fountain's Crossroads in Edgecombe County, peacefully went to be with her heavenly Father on Friday, May 17, 2025, at her son's home in Tarboro.

Born on May 5, 1933, in Palmyra, North Carolina, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Benjamin Lewis Harrell and Annie Brown Harrell. On November 23, 1952, she married the love of her life, Clarence Mayo Weathersby of Bethel. Together, they established a loving home in the Fountain's Crossroads community, where they lived for 40 years, raising a family and building a legacy of faith, devotion, and service.

Dorothy was a faithful and active member of Oak City Baptist Church, where she found joy in worship and community. She lived her faith daily—quietly and steadfastly—through her acts of kindness, generosity, and commitment to helping others.

A woman of remarkable work ethic, Dorothy balanced the responsibilities of maintaining her home, tending a vegetable garden, and helping with tobacco harvests while also working full-time in Tarboro. Her professional life included bookkeeping and customer service roles at Marrow-Pitt, Belk's, and BB&T. She retired from BB&T in 1995, which allowed her to travel, spend more time with loved ones, and care for those in need.

Dorothy found joy in simple pleasures: beach trips with her sister and sisters-in-law, visiting family, and helping friends with rides or home care. She was always ready to serve where she was needed. In her later years, she also enjoyed companionship and outings, especially with her dear friend Ed Powell of Robersonville, who preceded her in death.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband, Clarence; her brothers and their wives—Spencer Harrell Sr. (Pat) of Oak City, Melvin Harrell (Faye) of Hobgood, and Ray Harrell (Kitty) of Glassboro, New Jersey; her sister, Mary Tanner (Al) of Newport News, Virginia; and her dear friend, Ed Powell.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Alma Gladson (Ray), and her devoted son, Brian Weathersby (Lisa). Dorothy was a proud and cherished grandmother to Travis Weathersby and Allison Pierce (Josh). She found immense joy in her great-grandchildren: Jackson, Lauren, Ava, Kylie, Chelsie, and Grace. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Janice Weathersby, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to 3HC Home Health and Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Dorothy during her final months. A special thank you to Erma, Vera, Wilmetra, Kristi, Kristen, Steve, and Sidney for their dedication, kindness, and the comfort they provided to both Dorothy and her family. Your support will never be forgotten.

Dorothy's life was a testament to faith, strength, and selfless love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her and were blessed by her presence.
