Celebrating the Life of Dorothy Mayverne Lewis

Mayverne Lewis, 75, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Tarboro, North Carolina, Mayverne lived a life filled with compassion, kindness, and love for both people and animals. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thea Dalton “Red” Lewis and Dorothy Lane Lewis, as well as her eldest brother, Thea Dalton Lewis Jr.

Mayverne leaves behind a family who loved her deeply, including her son, Steven Summerlin and his wife, Amy; grandson, Aj Glover and wife, Maggie; her brother, Ceaso Lewis and his wife, Katy; along with her cherished niece Ashley Lewis Sivels, great-niece Kate Sivels and great-nephew Clark Dalton Sivels.

Mayverne had a special place in her heart for animals and adored her beloved fur babies, Gracie and Georgie. Her gentle spirit and caring nature showed in everything she did. She spent her working years as both a beautician and a veterinary technician, careers that perfectly reflected her nurturing personality and her love for helping others — whether human or animal.

Mayverne will be remembered for her warm heart, her love for Jesus, her caring soul, and the joy she brought to those around her. Her love, laughter, and compassion will continue to live on through the family and friends who were blessed to know her.

Though she will be greatly missed, her family finds comfort in celebrating a life so beautifully lived and so deeply loved.

Services will be at graveside held at Greenwood cemetery in Tarboro NC on Sunday May 3rd 2026 at 4:00pm. The family will receive friends after the service.
