Dorothy Winstead Harrell age 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
The family will receive friends and on Wednesday, June 14, at Carlisle Funeral Home from 1 until 2 PM with a Celebration of Dorothy's life being held at 2:00 PM in the Chapel. Interment will follow in Pineview Cemetery, Pinetops.
Dorothy was born in Wilson County, NC on November 26, 1928 to George and Rosa Winstead. In addition to her parents and both siblings, Gladys Farmer and Jack Winstead. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Melvin (Tink) Harrell. Dorothy was also preceded in death by 3 wonderful sons-in-law, James Allen Causey, Lee Motley, and Tommy Johnson; 2 special grandchildren, Lisa Moore and Josh Motley; and one great-great-grandchild, Trent Allen Harrell.
She leaves a lifetime of treasured memories for her children, Ann Johnson of Tarboro, Melvin Harrell of Tarboro, Shirley Causey of Macclesfield, Janice Harrell (Aubrey) of Macclesfield, Sandy C. Harrell of Winterville and Kathy Motley of Macclesfield. In addition, Dorothy has 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy also leaves behind a special roommate and "adopted" daughter, Linda (PeeWee) Hathaway.
Dorothy was a wonderful Mama, Grandma, and friend. She was an angel on this earth. Dorothy was a faithful servant of our Lord and Savior. She was a member of Pinetops Baptist Church and Sunday school teacher for many many years. She always enjoyed learning so between working fulltime and taking care of her family she enrolled at Edgecombe Community College to further her education. Dorothy excelled in college and later on used her writing and computer skills to write for the Daily Southern and Rocky Mount Telegram for the religious column. Even with all her accomplishments Dorothy's real joy was her family.
