Edward Ronald ("Ronnie") Barfield, 76, of Watauga, TX departed this world on June 1, 2024.

Visitation: 6-8 pm Thursday, June 13, 2024, Mount Olivet Chapel, 2301 N. Sylvania Avenue, Fort Worth, TX 76111. Funeral: 12-1 pm Friday, June 14, 2024, Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, 5725 Colleyville Boulevard, Colleyville, TX 76034.

Ronnie was born June 8, 1947, in Scotland Neck, NC. He was the son of Thelma Cashwell Barfield and Billy Edward Barfield. He graduated from Tarboro High School in 1965. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.  After serving in the Air Force, he attended Texas Christian University where he earned his Master's degree in Business Management. He began his career in 1968 at General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin while attending TCU. He dedicated 48 years and 11 months before retiring from Lockheed in 2016. He spent the majority of his tenure there in the Finance department working on cost accounting for the F-16, F-22, and F-35 aircraft.

Ronnie dedicated his life to his family. He met his wife of 55 years, Patty, at the Dairy Twist near Carswell AFB. They resided in Haltom City, TX for 47 years, before moving to Watauga, TX in 2015. They had two daughters whom he was very proud of. He enjoyed coaching their little league softball teams, attending Brownie and Girl Scouts functions, and participating in their elementary school carnivals, all of which he had an absolute blast. He had a supportive and quietly dependable presence, always attentive to their needs without seeking recognition. He helped them master holding the flashlight still and precisely overhead, building model car race tracks, mowing the lawn, hanging Christmas lights the "right way," exterior illumination to enhance the outdoor Christmas decorations, how to hang an exterior door and how to effectively pour gasoline in the carburetor of his 1962 Impala without creating a large fire.

Ronnie had several passions and hobbies he enjoyed which included playing softball for the Lockheed Martin employee team and city recreation teams, playing acoustic and electric guitar by ear, he could pick up any instrument and play it without training, he collected HO scale model trains, and spoiling his grandsons Ryan and Aaron- all of which he excelled in. He was fully responsible for the snarky personalities of Ryan and Aaron, along with their analytical approach to everything, their stubbornness, and even some of their passions. When they were young, Pawpaw as they called him, made sure they had the most amazing Christmases with gifts piled sky high, along with helping them play Santa at family get-togethers as well as letting them help him open his presents. Growing up they were never far from Pawpaw, which he cherished deeply. They enjoyed spending time watching Ancient Aliens, Wrestling, and Mountain Monsters. They had a ball together. As they grew older, he made sure he fully supported both of them in their education and career goals. Pawpaw would sacrifice everything to make his grandsons happy. He was so proud of them for having great morals and being upstanding members of society. He never worried about them as he knew they would make good decisions and make him proud.

After Ronnie retired, he spent a lot of time watching TV shows he loved - his favorite shows were 24-hour news, The Incredible Dr. Pol, Gold Rush, Naked and Afraid, and Critter Fixers. He truly loved animals. He always had room in his heart for his pets-to this day he still missed his Maine Coon "Lucky." After retirement, he found that grand pets were easier to manage- he loved his "little white" grand dog, Jack, and was just recently getting used to his new grand dog, Alex.

Over the last few years, he has battled Leukemia and Lung Cancer with courage and determination. He has had a fantastic team of compassionate and caring medical professionals that we appreciate for giving him the best care he could get.

Ronnie was absolutely the best husband, Dad, and Pawpaw in the world. He was the most supportive figure in their lives. He leaves behind his family to cherish his memory- his wife, Patty Barfield of Watauga; daughters, Sharyn Wycoff of Watauga, Lisa Hamann and her husband Chris of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Ryan Wycoff of Watauga, Aaron Wycoff of Arlington; bonus grandchildren, Mitchell Hamann of Spencer, IA, and Kyrie Hamann of Fort Liberty, NC; sister, Gail Barfield Tucker of Tarboro, NC; nieces, Shannon Payne and husband Jason of Fort Worth, Lori Guerin of McKinney and great nephews Ethan and Matthew Guerin of McKinney. He leaves behind family and friends who will carry on his legacy of devotion and support for one another.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Virginia Barfield Boyd all of NC; his brother-in-law, Tony Oates; sister-in-law, Charlotte Thompson and his aunt Betty Jackson of Watauga.
