Elizabeth Alford Tyson was born on November 25, 1925 to Jessie and Lydia Alford in Tarboro North Carolina. The eldest of six children Elizabeth was predeceased by brothers Jesse, Clayton, Lee, Gene and Johnny Alford. On February 15, 1948 Elizabeth married Ronald Earl Tyson who predeceased her in 2007. Surviving are two daughters Carolyn Tyson of Morehead City, NC, Nancy Tyson Dunn (Glenn) of Bear Creek, NC, sister-in-law Christine Alford of Tarboro and many loving nieces and nephews.
Inspired by their mother, Carolyn and Nancy both became teachers. Carolyn taught in high school and Nancy taught kindergarten. Elizabeth, Carolyn and Nancy enjoyed taking many trips together to Alaska, Hawaii, New York, Florida, the Bahamas and even Las Vegas. Elizabeth helped Ronald with his farming activities and even learned to drive a tractor. She enjoyed feeding the birds and watching wildlife, particularly cardinals in her yard and pelicans at the beach. Shortly after marrying Ronald, Elizabeth joined Oak City Christian Church where she was a faithful member for over 75 years. She participated in many church activities including the Christian Women's Fellowship and baking her famous pineapple cake for homecoming celebrations. In November 2025, Elizabeth enjoyed receiving many cards and visits from family and friends in celebration of her 100th birthday.
Elizabeth passed away on December 24, 2025 and was laid to rest next to Ronald Earl in the Oak City Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday January 3, 2026 at the Oak City Christian Church, 310 W. Commerce Street, with a reception for family and friends to follow in The Fellowship Hall.
