Frances Daughtry passed away on December 7, 2024.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 21, 3 P.M., at First Baptist Church, Tarboro. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 2P.M. in the church friendship hall.

Frances was born March 7, 1943, to John Thomas Mizell and Louise Minton Mizell. She was reared in Palmyra, NC, where her family owned a farm and ran a general store and post office. She graduated from Scotland Neck High School. She attended Mars Hill College for two years and then transferred to East Carolina College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. She completed her training at Watts Hospital in Durham.

She met her husband, Ronnie Daughtry, on her 21st birthday while at East Carolina. They were married July 31, 1966, and made their home in Tarboro.

She worked as a Laboratory Technician at Edgecombe General Hospital, later becoming a Lab Manager. After 20 years there, she moved to Nash General in 1986 and worked another 22 years until her retirement.

She was known for her incredible talent with sewing and crafting, including quilting, cross-stitch, smocking, embroidery, basketweaving, caning, making flags, wreaths, and much more. She made all her daughters' clothes when they were young, and even made matching Barbie outfits!

Frances was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Tarboro, and served the church in many ways, including participating in the handbell choir for many years, and serving on the Teller Committee and Flower Committee. She loved playing canasta and made many close friendships through her card groups.

She was predeceased by her parents and twin brother, Harold Edward Mizell.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ronnie Daughtry; daughters, Angie Lewis (John) of Washington, NC, and Janice Gray (David) of Greenville, NC; grandchildren, Sydney, Connor and Abigail Lewis, and Edward and Harrison Gray; sister, Dorothy Smith; brothers, John Mizell and Larry Mizell (Linda); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
