IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gerald Lloyd
Edge
May 17, 1933 – October 8, 2022
Gerald Lloyd Edge, son of Johnnie B. Edge and Mable Maness Edge was born May 17, 1933, in Fayetteville, NC, in the Massey Hill village where he attended school, graduating in 1951. He attended Southern Pilgrim College in Kernersville, NC and graduated in 1955. He earned a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Pfeiffer College in 1965, and a Master of Divinity degree from Duke University Divinity School in 1969.
Lloyd at the tender age of 15 dedicated his life to God in Christ and shortly thereafter received a call to Christian Ministry which became the ultimate concern of his life. He served Wesleyan Churches from 1955-61. Then he served churches in the North Carolina United Methodist Conference 1961-1996 and was retired from the North Carolina United Methodist Conference in 1996.
Lloyd served United Methodist Churches: Troy Circuit while a student at Pfeiffer College; Mt. Pleasant UMC, Pittsboro while at Duke University Divinity School; First United Methodist Church, Rockingham; Wrightsville Beach UMC; Pinetops UMC; Grifton UMC; Mebane UMC; Chestnut Street UMC, in Lumberton, NC; and Saint James UMC in Tarboro, NC.
In his totally dedicated life to his Lord Jesus Christ and the United Methodist Church, Lloyd was, himself, a most beloved and effective pastor to every church to which he was appointed. While humbly serving each congregation, Lloyd concomitantly provided leadership in conference committee appointments and facilitated the building of numerous church structures. Lloyd was the epitome of the single-minded shepherd of God's people whom he served and loved in every appointment.
Lloyd was preceded in death by both his parents, four cousins from his father's extended Edge family, one, Dr. Horace Maness, from his mother's extended family, uncles, aunts, and lifelong friends, including Ralph Holmes, with whom he shared a happy childhood on Massey Hill in Fayetteville, NC.
Lloyd leaves to grieve him his loving wife and helpmate in ministry, Eleanor Sober Edge; his daughter, Sharon Holmes and her husband, Tim, and grandson, Christopher Geatz; his son, Gerald Edge, Pam Edge, and grandson Jonathan Edge; a double first cousin, Dr. Tracy Maness and his wife, Jackie; the ROMEOS and faithful friends too numerous to mention. His service, love, and laughter will be missed and remembered by all.
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant of God. Rest in peace."
