IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Giles Dail,
Jr.
August 29, 1933 – February 22, 2022
Giles Dail, Jr, age 88, passed from this life to his Heavenly home on February 22, 2022. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 28, at St. James United Methodist Church in Tarboro, preceded by visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be at 3:00 PM at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Kinston, NC.
Giles was born in Lenoir County, North Carolina, to Margaret Davis Dail and Giles Samuel Dail. He grew up on the family farm in Sandy Bottom, NC, and graduated from Moss Hill High School. Following graduation from East Carolina College, he served two years in the United States Army, and was stationed in Germany during part of that time.
In 1986, after serving for 31 years, Giles retired from Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Co., where he had held several managerial positions. He then pursued a career teaching business and accounting courses at Edgecombe Community College. At the age of 50, Giles returned to East Carolina University where he earned Master's Degrees in Adult and Instructional Education. At Edgecombe Community College, Giles served as Program Coordinator/Instructor of the Business Administration and Accounting Department. He retired in 2011, after 25 years of service. Giles enjoyed being a member of the Tarboro Kiwanis Club for several decades and was an active member of St. James United Methodist Church and an associate member of Mountainside Lutheran Church, Linville, NC.
Giles met Marlene Ruth Reschke when she moved to Tarboro in 1976 and they were married in 1978. One of the happiest moments of his life was the arrival of their son, Roger, in 1982. Giles was all about family. He cherished his family farm and treasured all of his family members, immediate and extended. He loved to travel and made many trips to Texas, Florida, the West, his beloved North Carolina mountains, and numerous other places, often taking his mom, aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws "along for the ride", making many memories along the way.
Giles was preceded in death by his parents, Giles Samuel Dail and Margaret Davis Dail, and brother, Robert Lindsey Dail. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Marlene, son, Roger (Mason), and 8 month old granddaughter, Ellie Blake Dail. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Sylvia Miller, Helen Balkie (Alfred), and Barbara Reschke; nephews Scott Miller (Maureen), Timothy Miller (Patricia), Troy Reschke, Bryan Balkie, Joe Balkie; nieces Helen Sunkel and Elizabeth Turner (Cliff); aunt Joyce Davis, and many cousins.
In all he did, Giles exemplified the fruit of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-control, Gal 5:22.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:21
