Obituary

Harry Lee Allsbrook, Jr. passed on the morning of Thursday, December 12th in the hospice unit at ECU Medical Center in Greenville, NC.  At his side was his devoted wife, Yvonne, of 35 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Harry, Sr. and Minnie Allsbrook, and his sister Patsy Faithful (Frank). He is survived by his wife Yvonne of Tarboro, stepson's Jimmy Page (Candice- Christopher, Kipper and Corey) of Myrtle Beach and Kevin Page (Amanda- Carly, Creighton) of Beaufort, sister Nancy Edwards of Williamston, nephew Hank Edwards (Amy) of Williamston, nieces Ginger Barnhill of Scotland Neck and Gail Hansen of Williamston. Nephews Mark Faithful (Sherry) of Swansboro, Brian Faithful (Brenda) of Scotland Neck and Ron (Lesley) Faithful of Kill Devil Hills.

He is also survived by 5 loving and adoring grandchildren and many great nieces and nephews. He also was an adoptive Grandpa Hammy to his neighbors children and their children.

Harry graduated from Scotland Neck High school in 1961. He lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He attended Louisburg College, later he graduated from NC State University in 1967. After college he went on to start his career with the North Carolina Department of Corrections.

To all of the many that knew Harry, they will remember him as a special person who made friends wherever he was. Harry retired from a long and fulfilling career with the Department of Corrections in 1997 as superintendent of Nash Correctional Institution. He was an amazing husband, brother, stepfather, uncle, brother-in-law, friend, neighbor, and mentor. His golfing skills were exceptional. His swing was smooth and easy, much like his personality. He made difficult things look simple and he never forced his opinions on others, although many sought his wisdom and support. He was a loving grandfather, children were drawn to him, and he has spent countless hours on the floor playing with them or watching and rewatching children's movies and eating tons of popcorn (even playing with Barbie Dolls with Carly and getting his toenails painted occasionally). He loved to throw any type of ball in the backyard, play-fight with swords, or play a game of basketball. He would take them shopping to their favorite store and would always end these excursions with a trip to Krispy Kreme.

Harry loved to travel, especially with Yvonne and close friends and family. He loved the excitement of Las Vegas, the golf in Ireland, Scotland and Hawaii. Nothing compared, however, to the trips to his beloved second home, the Outer Banks. He developed many relationships over the years in this special area, played in many golf tournaments, and unsurprisingly made many lifelong friendships. He always paid close attention to others: he knew when to offer a helping hand, a phone call, or if you were so inclined... a game of golf. Harry always carried himself with the highest integrity, patience, grace and he was always compassionate... unless he happened to be answering his fourth Robocall of the day!

There are so many stories and wonderful memories of him that we all have, and we would like for you to share some of these memories during a celebration of life to be held next year, in the Outer Banks.

On December 12th, 2024, at approximately 8am, Harry finished his final earthly round, and... God became a better golfer.

We will miss you greatly. Thank you for all that you have added to our lives.
