Hilda Gray Smith Walston, 97, passed away on August 17, 2025.

Born July 2, 1928 in Martin County, NC, she was preceded in death by her parents William Marvin Smith and Lena Pender Smith; her husband of 48 years, William Raeford Walston; son, David Earl Walston; and brothers, Marvin Smith, Clarence Smith, Henry Smith and sister, Juanita Everette.

Hilda was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved cooking for her family.  The last surviving charter member of the Pinetops Church of God, she loved her church and was faithful and loyal in attendance. She was an employee of Cotton Belt, now Edgecombe Manufacturing Company for forty plus years.  After her retirement she enjoyed working in her yard and helping her son on the farm.

Surviving are son, R. Allen Walston and wife, Karen (Kay) of Macclesfield, NC; daughter, Judy W. Greene and husband, Bruce of Zebulon, NC; Grandchildren:  Susan Rae Robbins (Wayne) of Elm City, NC; Mitchell Greene (Yvette) of Silver Spring, MD; Joseph Greene of Dublin, Ireland; Leah Hernandez of Ellicott City, MD; David E. Walston (Tina) of Billings, MO and Shannon S. McLawhorn (Wade) of Hertford, NC; nine greatgrandchildren, five great, great grandchildren; sister, Alice S. Harris of Tarboro, NC; brothers, Richard J. Smith of Chesterfield, VA, and George Smith of Greenville, NC, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church.  Memorial services will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at the Pinetops Church of God.

A graveside service will be held immediately following the memorial service at the Walston Family Cemetery near Macclesfield.
