James Edwin Fawks passed away suddenly on February 12, 2021. He was 37. He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Ray Fawks.

He is survived by his wife, Sonya Fawks; their 3 children, Faith, Micah, and Jude; his mother, Mia Fawks; and his half-brother, Jamie Fawks.

He and Sonya had been married for 4 years. He was raised in Rochester, Michigan, but he and the family have lived in Castalia, North Carolina for a couple of years.

He loved and studied boxing and mixed martial arts in elementary through high school. He was a Michigan state Silver Gloves Boxing Champion (10 to 15 year olds), and later a 4 time Golden Glove Boxing Champion (16 or older). He qualified for the USA Boxing Olympic Team, but was unable to participate because of a change in the rules.

He loved to play chess and was very good at it. He loved animals, as does his wife, Sonya. He had a good heart and would help anyone who needed help that he could. He was a real jokester and loved to make people laugh. He loved sports and was a huge fan of Michigan University and the Detroit Lions and Tigers.

James and the family have faithfully attended Rise Church in Rocky Mount, NC. James loved his wife and children very much, and showed it in everything he did.

Carlisle Funeral Home of Tarboro, NC is handling the cremation. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2021 from 3 - 4 PM at Rise Church, 3520 Bishop Road, Rocky Mount, NC, 27804. After the service, visitors will be able to pay their respects to the family.
