James Vernon Johnston, 85 passed away Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Vidant Medical Center.

Graveside service will be held Monday, February 21, 2022, at 12 noon in Greenwood Cemetery with Reverend Michael Bryan officiating.

James was born McCracken County, Kentucky, October 12, 1936, to Charles and Imogene Williams Johnston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elta Lorene McNeil and husband, Don.

He is survived by his daughter, Melissa J. Hyman (Garry) of Tarboro, NC, son, James Gregory Johnston (Kathy) of Hickory, NC, grandchildren, Brittany Wingler (Daniel) of Red Oak, NC and Mary Sloane, Kristen Patteson (Trenton) of Greensboro, NC and Julien and Lawson, Adam Hyman (Jackie) of Dallas, TX, Seth Johnston (Annie) of Falls Church, VA and Leo, Kenan Johnston ( Sara) of Pittsboro, NC and Silas and Parker, Kelsey Bassett (Tyler ) of Martinsville, Va. And Hayes and Jack, niece, Debbie Metcalf, nephews, Donnie McNeil and Dickie McNeil who were loved dearly by Uncle Jimbo.
