IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Larry
(Killingsworth) Bowling
December 6, 1944 – April 30, 2025
James Larry Killingsworth Bowling passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital.
James was born in Lenoir County, NC, on December 6, 1944, to the late Robert E. Killingsworth and Louise Page Killingsworth. He moved to Bethel, NC in 1958, where he graduated from Bethel High School.
After school, James entered the US Army, where he served for three years in Korea and Germany as an MP. His status as a US Veteran is one of his many accomplishments.
James loved making things with his hands, resulting in his chosen profession as a millwright for several companies. He was also an accomplished machinist, certified welder, and was tasked with setting up the automated equipment for several companies.
An avid fisherman, James enjoyed spending time on the water boating and fishing with his buddies. He could "out fish" most, but never Wilton Owens, much to James' dismay. At one time, he even considered becoming a fishing guide in Alaska.
A man of many interests, James also enjoyed gardening. He especially loved growing watermelons and mastered the skill of determining when the watermelons were at their ripest.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Killingsworth, and nephew, Robbie Killingsworth.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Sunny Bowling; brother, Doug Killingsworth, and many special co-workers and fishing friends.
