IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jamie Ray
Evans
March 30, 1959 – September 1, 2024
Jamie Evans, a beloved third-generation farmer, passed away peacefully at home on September 1, 2024 at the age of 65, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. His friendly demeanor and infectious laughter made him a cherished figure around town, never meeting a stranger and always ready for a conversation. Born in Pitt County and raised in Tarboro, Jamie dedicated his life to the land that had been nurtured by his father. His deep connection to farming was evident in his tireless work ethic and the pride he took in cultivating the soil, working alongside his brothers and ensuring that the Evans family legacy continued to thrive.
Jamie's life took a wonderful turn when, in later years, he met Laura Brown, the love of his life, and they eventually got married. Laura Brown resonated with his adventurous spirit, providing a harmonious mix of tranquility and excitement. Their union was a testament to the idea that love can blossom at any stage of life. Jamie was a beloved father to his children: Little Jamie, Emily, and Mara. Their connection was profound, and his guidance played a crucial role in shaping their lives. Jamie's legacy will live on through his children. In particular, his son Little Jamie will uphold the farming tradition with the same dedication his father passed down to him. Jamie's essence and lessons will always be cherished by his family. Jamie also took on the responsibility of being a caring dad to Laura Brown's daughters, Rachel and Grace. He raised them with the same level of dedication that he showed towards his own children. They created a connection that went beyond words, based on love, respect, and shared experiences that molded their family's narrative. Jamie took great joy and pride in being known as "Poppi" to his grandchildren: Cutchin, Wellington, Sterlyn, Miller, Shelby, and Gates. The cherished sleepovers at Poppi and GiGi's house will forever be treasured memories, filled with laughter, stories, and love.
Jamie's passion for adventure extended beyond road trips with loved ones; he found immense joy in the thrill of the open road. Whether it was a quick weekend trip to Lake Gaston, cruising through the scenic mountains of Tennessee, especially Knoxville – go Vols! – or immersing himself in Nashville's lively music scene, Jamie relished discovering new destinations. Music was his constant companion on these journeys, with iconic artists like George Strait, Jimmy Buffet, Kid Rock, and Lynyrd Skynyrd providing the perfect soundtrack. The energetic rhythms and heartfelt lyrics of his favorite musicians fueled his love for live music, making every trip an unforgettable experience. Dancing beneath the starry sky with friends amidst the vibrant atmosphere of a live show created moments Jamie treasured. Jamie had a talent for befriending strangers everywhere he went. His enthusiasm for life's adventures was contagious, and those who were lucky enough to join him in his escapades will deeply feel his absence.
Jamie was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Shelby Evans, and his father-in-law, Larry Lancaster, Sr. Jamie is survived by his wife, Laura Brown Evans, son, Little Jamie, and wife Courtney Evans; daughters, Emily and husband Joe Williams, Mara and husband Ash Taylor, Rachel Tanhauser, Grace Connor and his six grandchildren.
In addition to his immediate family, Jamie leaves behind his mother-in-law Vikki Brown Lancaster, his brothers Wayne Evans and wife Guyla, Freddie Evans and wife Reesie. Sister-in-law Catherine Lancaster and husband Gabe Muniz and brothers-in-law Bucky Lancaster and wife Ashley, Reed Lancaster and wife Sabrina. Jamie was also a cherished uncle to a host of nieces and nephews and a dear friend to many. In the end, Jamie's legacy is one of love, laughter, and a life well-lived. He leaves behind a family full of wonderful memories. Rest in peace, Jamie—you've earned it.
