It is with loving hearts and profound sadness we share, Jerry Clarence Hardy, 83, passed away June 4, 2023. Jerry was born on April 28th, 1940 in Edgecombe County to the late Clarence and Susie Hardy. Jerry was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Fredrick "Dick" and Carrie Hardy; Mother and Father-in-law Ophelia and Noah Baker, and brother-in-law Teeny Baker.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at First Free Will Baptist Church, Tarboro, NC with Rev. Michael Bryan and John Henry Chapman, III who is a grandson officiating.
The happiest moments in Jerry's life always included his family and the love of his life, Sophia. He especially enjoyed supporting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren from ball games to recitals. The fondest memories Jerry's family have of him include his breakfast on Christmas morning, family vacations, and his witty remarks.
Jerry was a veteran who served honorably in the Army for five years. Jerry worked for Carolina Telephone Company in Tarboro, NC starting in 1963 and retired after 32 years of dedicated service. He attended the First Free Will Baptist Church of Tarboro. He enjoyed many hobbies in his lifetime including NASCAR, fishing, hunting, and Bojangles breakfast with his friends.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Sophia Hardy; his three children Tina Wooten (Allen), Jeannette Davenport (Bill), and Jay Hardy (Sara); Ten grandchildren Samantha Grimes (Jay), Tiffany Barber (Cameron), John Chapman III (Jennifer), Brittany Walton (John), Taylor Harris (Josh), Hunter Davenport (Casey), Emily Hardy (Jonathan), Tanner Hardy, Carson Hardy, and Jackson Hardy; Eight great-grandchildren Maddie, Brooklyn, Jameson, Brayden, Pierce, Sophia Grace, Eleanor, and John Henry IV; sister-in-laws Carolyn Baker and Lisa Baker (James); and a host of extended family.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to National Kidney Foundation of North Carolina; 7413 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27615.
Visitation will be at Carlisle Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
