Jimmy Ray Matthews, 64, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018 at his home. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, 2:00pm at Carlisle Funeral Home with Pastor Ricky Freeman officiating. Jimmy was the owner of Matthews & Company, a landscaping and Irrigation Company he operated for over 25 years. Jimmy enjoyed life, his family, friends, four legged companions and fishing. A committal service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, January, 27 at 11:00am at Hamilton Boat Ramp, Hamilton, NC. The family would like to request that you dress causal to honor Jimmy's wishes as they scatter his cremains in the Roanoke River where he loved to bass fish. He was preceded in death by his parents, Early Celester Matthews and Ruby Taylor Matthews; sister, Brenda Sloan, and a brother, Johnny Matthews. He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 45 years, Betty Kay Matthews; son, Michael Matthews and his wife, Holli; grandchildren, Camden and Aubrey Matthews; sisters, Joann Stallings and Joyce Roebuck; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January, 23 at Carlisle Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00pm. Arrangements are by Carlisle Funeral Home, Inc., of Tarboro.
