Joseph Pender Hathaway (Jody) passed away Saturday morning, January 29, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Aaron and Clara Pender Hathaway, and his wife Olivia Hadnott Hathaway.

He is survived by his children Jo Ann Carr (David), Pender Hathaway (Pam), and Curtis Hathaway (Dorothy), grandchildren Laurie Baker (Brandon), Davy Carr, Beth Kight (John), Casie Hathaway, Heather Hathaway (Javier), Jamey Grasser (Bryan), 15 great-grand children, and one great-great grandson.

Jody lived all of his life in Edgecombe County. He is remembered by many for his years of running the Shell and Spur service stations in Pinetops. In the early 1990's he spent several years working at Carolina Enterprise until his retirement in 1996. His grandchildren have many fond memories of walks to the corner service station for ice cream cones and candy, swinging on the front porch swing, and watching him work in his woodshop. On warm days, Jody enjoyed sitting in his swing watching his many great-grandchildren play. He will be greatly missed by all of his family.

The family will receive friends and family at Carlisle Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 from 1-2, with a celebration of Jody's life being held immediately following at Carlisle.
