Mary Lenore Ruffin Westbrook

Lenore Ruffin Westbrook, 85, died at her home in Tarboro on October 30, 2022. A lifelong resident of Tarboro, she was the devoted daughter of Mack Thomas Ruffin, Jr and Margaret Denson Ruffin.

Lenore was a high school basketball player, a cheerleader, a lifeguard, and a swim instructor for the Tarboro Recreation Department. She graduated from the University of North Carolina Greensboro and dedicated herself to her family and those she treated like family, which included her students, her friends, neighbors, and those dear to her through her life as a member of Calvary Episcopal Church. She really enjoyed her work through Meals on Wheels, as much for the company as for the service she provided. An avid reader, she was a steady patron of Edgecombe County Library. Her favorite reading spot was the rocking chair on her front porch where she would put down her book to delight in the conversations she sometimes had with those passing by. Her sincere interest in the people she met made many of us feel valued.  Which is something we will always have.

Her brother, Mack Thomas Ruffin III and his wife Patricia; her nephew, Dr. Mack Thomas Ruffin IV and his wife Cathy Carter, their children Noah and Sean and his wife Julia; her niece Margaret Ruffin Horvath, her son Stephen; her niece Susan Ruffin Clark, her husband Duffey, their children, Shelby Clark Gibson and her husband Andy and their children; Samantha Clark and her husband Chris and their child.

Her son Charles Heath Westbrook, Jr, his wife Margaret; her grandson Charles, his wife Melissa, and her great grandchildren Simon, Ian, Arthur, and Heath; her grandson Thomas, his wife Elizabeth, and her great-grandchildren Kerrigan Culbreth, Christopher Culbreth and Riley Culbreth; her granddaughter, Margaret Westbrook Libowsky, her husband Andrew, her great- grandchildren Luke and Eli; and her grandson, Andrew .

Her son Mack Denson Westbrook, his wife Alicia, and her grandson, Denson Westbrook and his wife Ashley, her grandson J.R. Patten and his wife Molly, her granddaughter Olivia Graham and her husband, Emmanuel, and her great-grandchildren Westin, Jaylen, and Emory.

Her son David Noble Westbrook, his daughter, Kaylee and her sister Kelsi Dew.

Visitation with the family is at Carlisle Funeral Home in Tarboro Friday , November 4, from 6-8 pm.
