Obituary

With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of Lillian Harris Peele, a cherished matriarch, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Lillian peacefully departed this life on August 11, 2024, surrounded by loving family.

Born on August 8, 1941, Lillian dedicated her life to her family, her faith, and her community. As the heart and soul of our family, she was a guiding light whose wisdom, strength, and unwavering love shaped and enriched our lives. Her home was always a sanctuary, filled with warmth, laughter, and the comforting aroma of her home-cooked meals.

Lillian dedicated 15 years of her career to Hugh Chatham Health in Elkin, NC as the head cook. Her culinary skills and compassionate nature enriched the lives of countless patients and staff. Upon her retirement from the hospital, Lillian continued her devoted service to others by working as a private sitter until she was no longer able to continue. Her commitment to caring for others was evident in every aspect of her life.

A devoted member of Lighthouse Assembly Church in Traphill, NC, Lillian lived her faith through acts of kindness, compassion, and service. Her commitment to her church was an extension of her deep love for God, and she found joy in every opportunity to serve and uplift those around her. Her faith was her foundation, and it shone brightly in everything she did.

Lillian was known for her boundless generosity and her ability to make each person feel valued and cherished. She took immense pride in her family, celebrating our joys and providing comfort in our sorrows. Her legacy is one of unconditional love, resilience, and a spirit that will continue to inspire us.

She is survived by her brother Steven Harris, sister Helen Manning, daughters Deborah Underhill and Sheila Lewis (husband Wayne), sons Edgar Savage Jr. (wife Betty) and Curtis Savage. She has five grandchildren: Jonathan Bryant, Amber Smith (husband Kevin), Corie Miller (husband Tyler), Brandon Savage (fiancé Tawuana Lee), and Chris Savage. She has ten great grandchildren: Jonathan Bryant Jr, Jaslyn Bryant, Leah Arnold, John Luke Smith, Alexander Smith, Copeland Miller, Camden Miller, De'Sire Savage, Brianna Savage, and Valerie Savage along with numerous nieces and nephews. All who will remember her with endless gratitude and affection. Her life was a testament to the power of love and faith, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Major Robert Harris and Margie Cox Harris, her husband Paul Peele, sisters Stella Harris, Gladys White and Emily Bruce Thompson, and great grandson Jaylian Nicholas Bryant.

A wake to honor Lillian Harris Peele will be held on August 14, 2024, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Carlisle Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to join us in remembering and celebrating a life well-lived.

The funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Johnny Hendricks and will take place on August 15, 2024, at 2:00pm at Carlisle Funeral Home, followed by the burial at Edgecombe Memorial Park. We invite those who knew Lillian Harris Peele to join us in paying final respects and finding comfort in shared memories.

We take comfort in knowing that she is now resting in the arms of God, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Rest in peace, Lillian, you will forever be our guiding star and the anchor of our family.
