Obituary

The battle is over, the victory is won.

Louise Jefferson Stallings, age 98 of Crisp, NC, went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 15, 2025.

Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Carlisle Funeral Home in Tarboro.  The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Reverend Jeff Holden officiating.  The interment will follow at Edgecombe Memorial Park for family members.

Louise was born on December 16, 1926, to Ernest Joseph and Bessie Bell Jefferson in Fountain, North Carolina.  Born the youngest of 9 children in a farming family during the Great Depression whose father died when she was 4, this woman knew hard work that she enjoyed well into her eighties.  In the summers, you could find her busy in her garden growing vegetables that she enjoyed sharing with her family and friends all year.  Louise was a talented woodworker who lovingly crafted custom pieces of furniture for her family, each one a reminder of her skill and love. She loved her family and the many friends in her life. Known by her grandchildren as Gogga, her favorite quote from a granddaughter is, "Anybody can be a grandma, but only you can be a Gogga''. She was a member of Eagles Baptist Church and loved her church family.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 38 years, Howard W Stallings; son, Howard (Ward) W Stallings Jr; five brothers, Thurman Jefferson, Raymond Jefferson, Richard Jefferson, William Henry Jefferson and Robert Jefferson; three sisters, Minnie Bell Norville, Annie Bruce Lewis, and Adele Jefferson Styles.

Survivors include her son, Kenneth W Stallings and wife Shirley of Crisp; daughter-in-law Betty Jean Varnell Stallings of Crisp; two granddaughters, Kendra Stallings of Crisp and Collene Stallings of Winston Salem; grandson Howard (Tré) W Stallings III and wife Courtney of Greenville; two great-grandsons Eli Stallings and Caleb Stallings.

Many thank-yous to those wonderful family members and friends that provided companionship over the years by visits, cards and letters, and taking her to various places to eat and shop.

Also thank you to the personnel at Wilson Rehabilitation and Nursing Center who provided loving care to "Gogga" in her end-of-life journey. Many nurses mentioned that she was a beam of light to everyone there.

To know her was to love her. She will be dearly missed by all her family members and friends. However, there is peace in knowing she enjoyed a very full and long life.

Flowers are welcome, and for those who prefer, donations may be made to Eagles Baptist Church in her memory.
