Mamie Evelyn Whitehurst Morris, born May 28, 1937, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 25 at age 87 with her family surrounding her.

Mamie grew up in Conetoe, alongside her beloved bothers, she later married the love of her life, her husband Larry. They spent their lives in Tarboro, where they raised their 3 Children. Mamie was a devoted mother, devout Christian, and dedicated her life to helping others. She spent her life exemplifying kindness and faithfulness in all she did.  She was a faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ serving in many capacities while at Pentecostal Holiness church and went on to serve at Penders Chapel in the latter part of her life.  Mamie was a passionate advocate for those with developmental disabilities. She was the cheerleader and champion for Larry Jr. all of his life.  After Mamie retired, she volunteered daily at the local senior center serving others and sharing her love for the Lord. Mamie Evelyn was a devoted prayer warrior, this was well known, which led many people to call her daily to pray with them. She would stop immediately, no matter the circumstances, and kneel in prayer. She was a humble and genuine person who loved to cook, sharing her meals with many throughout the years. Mamie will be missed by many and especially by her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry E. Morris Sr. of 65 years; parents, Harvey and Thelma Whitehurst; brothers, Bill, Kenneth, and David. Along with her precious granddaughter, Erica Michelle Griffin.

She is survived by her brother, Philip Whitehurst; her children, Larry Morris Jr., daughters, Elizabeth (Beth) Griffin, and Kimberly Daniels, granddaughter, Morgan (Kyle) Kisiah and great grandchildren, Ryleigh, Mallory, and Landen.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 29th at Penders Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Johnnie Hendricks officiating. Visitation at 1 pm and funeral to follow at 2pm. Burial will follow in Edgecombe Memorial Park.
