Margaret (Rookie) Tripp, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 20, 2026. Born in Edgecombe County, April 3, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Ida Walters. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Seward (Bud) Tripp, son Bennie Clarence Tripp, brothers, George (Monkey) and Milford (Runt) Walters, sisters, Nannie Denny and Lee Cooley and a special son-in-law, Bobby Hobgood.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories, daughter, Voyce Hobgood of Pinetops, grandson, Bennie Clay Tripp of Washington DC and many friends and family.

Rookie’s daughter, Voyce, would also like to extend a huge thank you to Millie Allen for all the care and support she provided during Rookie’s illness and stay at The Bridges. Rookie always looked for her to walk through the door. Millie held a special place in Rookie’s heart as well as Rookie in Millie’s.

Rookie spent many years enjoying antiquing. She loved buying and selling antiques but would occasionally tend to keep some for herself. Her house was filled with so many treasures.

Just like her mother, she enjoyed flowers. You could quite often catch her in her yard, tending to them and taking great pride in watching them bloom.

Aside from antiquing and flowers; she also took great joy in cooking. She especially loved preparing meals for her beloved daughter and son-in-law. It became a nightly ritual for those three to gather around her table. She always made sure no one left her table hungry.

Her love, kindness, and all the wonderful memories will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 23, 2026 from 6pm-7pm with funeral immediately following at Carlisle Funeral Home, Tarboro, NC.
