Margie Stalls passed away Saturday, January 17. 2026. She was born Margie Allison Burnette November 26, 1932 near Speed, North Carolina, the 3rd of 11 children of the late Beatrice and Franklin Burnette. She graduated from Tarboro High School, and married Linwood D Stalls Sr. (predeceased). She lived most of her adult life in Suffolk and Portsmouth, Virginia, residing in Tarboro the past 11 years.
Margie is also predeceased by a sister, Rosemary, and 4 brothers: Franklin "Junior" and wife Mavis, Garland, Arthur and Billy, and by son-in-law Donald Withers.
She is survived by a daughter, Joan Stalls Withers and husband David Moorhead of Pawley's Island, SC, and a son, Linwood D Stalls Jr., and wife Renee of Jacksonville, NC. Grandchildren include Damian Stalls and wife Michelle, Justin Weimer and wife Robyn, and Annalise Stalls. Great grandchildren are Desiree Wiley, Theresa Stalls and husband Remy Goo, Jenna Weimer, and Jocelyn Weimer. Great-grandson Ayden Wiley. Margie is survived by sisters Bea Burnette and Arena Webb and husband Bruce Webb (all of Tarboro), brothers Woody Burnette and wife Pam (of Raleigh), Earl Burnette and Kenneth Burnette (both of Chicago).
Margie started at Carolina Telephone & Telegraph in Tarboro. She retired from Norshipco in Norfolk after 33 years of service. She was a member of Beech Grove United Methodist Church at Driver. She was a member of the Boogie On The Beach Shag Club, Portsmouth Pardners Square Dance, The National Carousels of Virginia Beach, and a lifetime member of Women Of The Moose #966 in Portsmouth.
A memorial service was held Friday, January 30, 2026 at Calvary Episcopal Church in Tarboro. Interment will be at Albert G Horton Jr Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA, Monday, March 2, 2026 at 1:00pm.
