Mary Louise was a devoted member of Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was an ordained elder, taught Sunday school, and chaired and served on numerous committees. In the Presbyterian Women of the Church she taught bible lessons, was circle chairman, was treasurer for many years, served two terms as president, and was given the honorary life membership in 1996. She volunteered with the American Red Cross blood drives and during the flood of 1999. One volunteer job near and dear to her heart was "Meals-on-Wheels" as she and her husband served as a team, delivering meals for many years, and she continued after his death, also organizing volunteers from her church and serving on the Board of Directors and as secretary.
