Mary "Tetie" Johnson Hopkins, 92, passed away on December 11, 2025, at 1:20 PM, surrounded by her family and friends.

Tetie was born in Edgecombe County on July 13, 1933, to the late George William Johnson, Sr. and Mary Lou Johnson.  She resided in Edgecombe County her entire life and graduated from Tarboro High School in 1955.  After graduation, she devoted twenty-eight years of service to Carolina Telephone Company.  A loving mother, grandmother, and sister who was a committed member of Tarboro Pentecostal Holiness and Word of Life churches, she will be missed by many.

In addition to her parents, Tetie was preceded in death by her husband, Larry C. Hopkins, brothers, George W. Johnson, Jr., James Elliott Johnson, and Tremain Johnson.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Ellis Coker (Gene); grandchildren, Jennifer Joyner (Randy), Michael Adams (Stacey); six great grandchildren, her brother, Milton Johnson (Dianne), and two sister-in-laws, Pluma Riggs and Catherine Batchelor.

A Celebration of Tetie's life will be held in the Chapel of Carlisle Funeral Home Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 11am with the interment following in Greenwood Cemetery.
